STOP Early Journal Content on JSTOR, Free to Anyone in the World This Lititz / lɪtɪts/ is a borough in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, six miles (approximately 10 km) Lititz was founded by members of the Moravian Church in 1756 and was named after a General Sutter Grave in Lititz Moravian Cemetery. By 1748 most of this congregation had become part of the newly formed Moravian Church and School that was built along the creek just east of Locust Street. This cemetery was established in 1744 by settlers who founded a Union Church nearby and later organized the Warwick (now Lititz) Moravian Congregation. Its naming was explained by Abraham Beck's 1905 book, The Moravian Graveyards at Lititz, Pa. Lititz Moravian Historic District is a national historic district located at Lititz, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. The contributing site is the Moravian Church Cemetery (established 1758).
